What Does Being a Green Dentist Mean?
Setting up and operating a business of any kind necessitates the production of new materials and creates waste of varying kinds. However, I am a firm believer that we can each minimize our environmental footprints while still being participating members of our technologically advanced society.
These are a few of the ways in which Redtree Dental reduces our impact:
- Minimizing disposables: our dental office uses washable bibs and cups instead of the paper disposable ones, fabric hand towels over paper ones whenever feasible, fluoride mouth rinses rather than gels in single-use Styrofoam trays, and metal containers for instruments instead of disposable bags
- Using paper products responsibly: We only print on recycled paper with vegetable-based inks, and use paper, envelopes, toilet paper and paper towels made of 100% recycled fibers.
- Using chemicals responsibly: We use biodegradable disinfecting solutions, do not use processing chemicals for x-rays, and our janitorial service providers use green cleaning products.
- Making greener choices: We use supplies with minimal packaging and disposable components, and choose furniture made with green products like bio-foam and FSC wood.
- Using water responsibly: Our dental vacuum unit is dry and does not use the large amount of water that traditional models do.
- Spreading the local love: We use local services as often as possible to support our community and minimize transportation emissions.
